About Sandie Maylor
I am a Director-level Press & Media Relations specialist with 20 years consumer PR experience & good solid working relationships with journalists across the consumer press, from specialist cultural media, luxury lifestyle, & industry-specific & trade media, to business & corporate media in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia & the Middle East.
Six & a half years of my career was in Sotheby's auction house press office, devising & implementing major global press campaigns for a range of departments, from those of huge national/global importance, such as the Maria Callas & Elizabeth Taylor's jewellery collections, plus Katherine Hepburn's & the Kennedy's estates, Damien Hirst’s ‘Pharmacy’ sale & the rediscovery of Michelangelo's Mourning Woman, to the creation of captivating campaigns for the less press-worthy departments.
As well as creating individual press strategies for each department & tailored strategies for special campaigns, such as global announcements, or major collections, my role at Sotheby’s also included crisis campaigns, VIP client relationship management, attaining profiles of senior management in target media, briefing staff for media interviews, producing Q&As & corporate statements & crisis communications in accordance with overall corporate strategy.
I subsequently held the role of Press Director at The Antique Wine Company, (luxury fine & rare wines), where I devised the company’s PR strategy & ongoing press campaigns to attain a consistent press presence in the UK & global press. On the agency side I was Director of PR of the Culture team at a luxury art & design PR agency, managing a team of six. The accounts I led on were: Alberto Alessi, 1stDibs, LAPADA & Decorex. My penchant is for auction house press, attaining coverage for all sizes of auction houses both in the UK and abroad. I enjoy promoting upcoming collections, specific works and raising the profile of auction specialists in the media.
